Is alloy safe for sensitive skin types?
No. There are only a few choices for jewelry that are less likely to cause allergies. Gold and stainless steel are two good options because they are considered hypoallergenic. This means they are less likely to make your skin have an allergic reaction. However, if you don't have any problems with your skin, you can choose jewelry made with different metals.
Will the jewelry tarnish?
Sometimes, when certain metals are mixed together to make something called an alloy, they can become tarnished. Usually this occurs to products listed as ALLOY or PLATED materials.
When an alloy tarnishes, it can look dull or get covered in a gray or black coating. Let's talk about a few common alloys used in making jewelry.
Gold: Whether gold tarnishes or not depends on how it's made. If it's made with a higher amount of pure gold, it won't tarnish much but might need some polishing once in a while. But if it's made with a thin layer of gold on top of another metal, it will tarnish over time, and you will see the metal underneath.
Sterling silver: This kind of silver contains a small amount of other metals, usually copper, which makes it tarnish. The copper reacts with the air or your skin and changes the color of the silver. Sometimes, if you're sensitive to copper, your skin might even turn green.
Stainless steel: Stainless steel is a good alloy because it doesn't tarnish easily, especially the kind used in surgeries. That's because it has something called chromium, which creates a special layer that protects it from tarnishing and rusting. It also doesn't change the color of your skin.
Brass: Brass is an alloy made by mixing zinc and copper. It tends to tarnish because copper reacts with your skin. You can tell it's tarnishing when the jewelry touches your skin and it turns green.
Our accessories are essential fashion additions, and it is important to handle them with care while wearing or using them.
